The Orchestra

The Viennese Salonorchester (Salon Orchestra) of the Volksoper (People's
Opera House) was founded in 1994 by members of the Volksoper Orchestra.
It is dedicated to preserving the tradition of Viennese classical music,
together with the sort of delight in playing music that was a feature
of the concerts of Strauss and his contemporaries 100 years ago. |
|
|
As well as the Hofburg programme of the Strauss Dynasty's most beautiful
melodies, the company's repertoire also includes works by Lonner, Ziehrer,
Schrammel, Mozart, Hadyn, Beethoven, Schubert and traditional Viennese
salon music. |
|
|
|
The chamber music line-up uses an arrangement specially adapted by
the company itself, which is based on the composer's original scores.

The Salon Orchestra came top in a comparison of waltz concerts by
the Austrian daily newspaper, Der Standard.
"...besides
musical humour and exuberant playing, the orchestra possesses a bewildering
beauty of sound, the enjoyment and good humour of the musicians comes
across directly to the very animated audience..."
Der
Standard, 7. Juli 1996
